Samsung SPF-87H and SPF-107H Photo Frames Now Heading Toward Japan

Announced in Korea earlier this month, Samsung's latest photo frames the SPF-87H and SPF-107H, are heading toward Japan with a possible launch in late May and beginning of June.

The SPF-87H features a nice 8” LCD with a resolution of 800x400 LCD with a 500:1 contrast ratio and 200cd/m2 brightness while the SPF-107H feature a 10” LCD with 1024x600 resolution, a 500:1 contrast ratio and a 250cd/m2.

Both can also be used as a secondary display.

Nexto announces NVS2500 backup storage device

Nexto, a manufacturer of portable backup storage devices, has announced the NVS2500 backup device claiming to offer back up speeds of up to 80MB/s. Primarily designed for video professionals, it is compatible with Compact Flash, SDHC and MemoryStick Pro, though its fastest speeds are reserved for SxS media. Built around a 2.5” SATA hard drive, it offers eSATA/USB and FireWire support. It also allows simultaneous backup to both its internal HD and an external USB hard drive. It also features a 2.4" preview LCD, rugged construction and a free-fall sensor for maximum drive protection. The NVS2500 is available in 160GB, 250GB, 350GB and 500GB storage capacities.

Simply because we're not stupid, LG thought it was about time to do something and introduced their new W53 Smart LCDs that automatically brightness, and feature a cinema mode blacking out the rest of the screen when playing videos, a timer that reminds you to take a break, a proximity sensor…. All of these nice little things are available with LCDs from 18" to 27” with a full HD Resolution (21” to 27” only), a 50000:1 contrast ratio and a 2ms response time.

Back in 2007 and 2008, Asus announced their intention to release a bamboo covered notebook, so far it's only available in a few countries including Taiwan. Finally Asus Korea launched their very own bamboo notebook in a high-end device, the U6V… Besides the obvious bamboo thingy, the U6V is powered by a Core 2 Duo T9400, has 4GB of RAM, a GeForce 9300M GS with 256MB of DDR2 VRAM, 320GB of HDD, a DVD Super Multi or Blu-ray drive, a 12.1” WXGA LED Backlight LCD, Wifi ABGN, and HDMI Out.

If only it were available in Japan too, I'd seriously consider buying it.

Olympus Japan release today a new PC 3D Kit for content creators. This kit will be bundled with a monitor recommended by Olympus Visual Communications. According to the Japanese manufacturer, thanks to this kit you’ll be able to check the 3D stereoscopic effect of your works directly on a PC monitor.

So, our PC 3D Kit will features shutter glasses allowing 3D Stereoscopics viewing on a standard LCD monitor, a controller box, and a 24-Inch BenQ LCD monitor which provides a full HD resolution, and a response time of 5ms.

Pentax just announced two new Optios for the CES. The 12Mpix P70 and its 4x optical zoom (28-112mm), shoots video in 720p at only 15fps, features new face recognition features that tracks up to 32 faces in 0.03 sec, 33.7MB of internal memory, and supports SD and SDHC cards.

The E70 is a 10Mpix model with a 3x wide zoom (35-105mm).

Today LG Korea announced a new 14.1 LCD dedicated for notebooks designed for both indoor and outdoor use. An aAdaptive backlight isn't new, but here LG succeed in designing a screen that gives optimum visibility under all conditions. By switching from transmissive to reflective mode (the screen uses sunlight to illuminate itself) not only will you get a clear view of your screen display, but also improved battery lifespan (per LG).

Seoul, Korea ( Dec. 22, 2008 ) – LG Display Co., Ltd. [NYSE: LPL, KRX: 034220], a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced today that it has developed a 14.1 inch LCD panel for notebook PC that is illuminated by sunlight instead of the backlight unit when used outdoors. The company’s new, sunlight illuminated, energy efficient LCD panel will debut at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2009.

Leveraging LG Display’s “Backlight Data Signal Switching Technology”, the use of selective reflection plates in existing backlight panels enables the switch from reflective mode in a high luminance setting (sunlight) to transmissive mode in a low luminance setting (indoors and at night). This is the first LCD panel to allow users to easily switch from backlight use (transmissive mode) to outdoor reflective mode with the touch of a button.

The display’s outdoor energy consumption falls to one fourth the level of indoor energy consumption, providing a significant increase in battery life. While Backlight units in conventional notebooks can account for more than 75 percent of the total energy consumption used in LCD panels for notebooks.

In addition, this new product resolves visibility issues with a contrast ratio exceeding 9:1 when used outdoors in reflective mode. The display’s contrast ratio ranges from just 2:1 to 3:1 for conventional notebook PCs when used outdoors, implying difficulty in viewing the screen.

Mr. In-Byeong Kang, LG Display’s Vice President and Head of LCD Laboratory, noted, “Our environmentally friendly, 14.1 inch LCD for notebook PC overcomes the challenges of extending battery life in use of notebook PCs outdoors where isn’t likely to be power outlets, while providing superior outdoor visibility.”

And I would like to say finally, Japan will get the FMW-BIBLO NW with built-in secondary display! Available December 26th, it will feature a 16-Inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,366x768, an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.40GHz), 2GB of memory, 320GB of HDD, an Intel GM45 Express Chipset, a Blu-ray drive, and digital TV tuner, four USB ports, Wifi b/g/n, HDMI output.

The second display is a 4-Inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 480x272. According to David, this mini touchscreen seems responsive.

Two New Full HD LCDs from Acer Japan

Introducing Acer Japan's H223HQbmid a 21.5” LCD, and H243Hbmid a 24” LCD, . Both with a very interesting screen resolution of 1920x1080. While many LCDs are 1920x1200, Acer chose to follow the HD trend for these two entry level LCDs starting from 250€ to 330€.

Specwise, the 21.5” has a 20000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 300cd/m2, while the 24” has a 40000:1 contrast ratio with the same brightness. Otherwise the view angle of our LDCs is 160/170 and a 72% color reproduction in the NTSC spectrum. Since we're talking about Full HD screens, Acer made sure to provide them with an HDMI port.

Here are the first official pictures of Samsung's SPH-W6050, officially announced today. So far only available in Korea, it comes with a 5Mpix autofocus camera module with integrated flash and a redesigned body for improved handling in camera mode. It features the new OMNIA front design, a 3” LCD with WVGA resolution (800x480), digital TV tuner DMB, microSD card slot, and a Haptic user interface.
