Samsung Strengthens Its Blu-ray Leadership

Samsung Strengthens Its Blu-ray Leadership

Now that the HD format war is over, manufacturers can begin focusing their efforts on improving their Blu-Ray product line-ups and and providing us with a better HD experience.

Many complained that most Blu-Ray player were “closed” and could not be updated, like a PS3 for example. To these complainers, it appears Samsung heard you. Their fourth generation Blu-Ray player allows you to upgrade when necessary.

SEOUL, KOREA – April 28, 2008 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced its latest additions to the product lineup: a fourth-generation Blu-ray player and a second-generation Blu-ray home theater. Samsung boasts the most diverse selection of Blu-ray products in the industry, and company officials revealed plans to make the high quality video and audio format a full-fledged market that Samsung will lead.

Samsung Electronics introduced the world’s first Blu-ray player in June 2006 and has to date developed three successive generations of the product. Last December Samsung unveiled the first-ever home theater-in-a-box that includes a Blu-ray player and now has come out with an upgraded version. As such, the company remains ahead of the competition in new product development.

Dongsoo Jun, chief of Digital AV Business Division at Samsung Electronics, said he expects the overall Blu-ray market to achieve average annual growth of at least 80% through 2012, with 51 million units sold a year by that time. A conservative estimate for 2008 would be 5 million units sold, or three times the number for last year, he added.

“We will maintain our technology and market leadership, working together with many other companies in the Blu-ray business to drive market expansion. Our own Blu-ray product sales should increase to W400 billion this year and surpass W1 trillion by 2010,” Jun said.

In the days ahead, Samsung Electronics intends to differentiate its technology governing the basic Blu-ray functions—video and audio quality. Its strengths as a consumer electronics maker will be leveraged to strengthen the connectivity among home-use products (such as the TV) and mobile products (camcorders, mobile phones, etc.). In addition, access to various media services will be added to provide consumers with a steady stream of new lifestyle options, setting Samsung clearly apart from its rivals.

Importantly, Samsung expressed determination at the Blu-ray Strategy Briefing to stimulate market growth as a Blu-ray product manufacturer. Jun said, “The DVD market took off once 1,000 DVD titles became available, and Samsung will help to create an environment that will allow film studios to produce their titles on BD. This we will do by informing the consumers of the value that Blu-ray offers and by expanding the number of competitive products to drive market growth.”

The increase in full-HD TVs is seen as the impetus for Blu-ray market expansion. Full-HD TVs are now in widespread use, but consumers are having a difficult time in finding the players and contents that are up to the capabilities of their TV. The Blu-ray market will grow because this format is a sure way for consumers to enjoy full-HD video and audio quality. Samsung Electronics will broaden the synergy between its Blu-ray product line (players, home theaters) and full-HD product line (TVs, camcorders and so on). Samsung’s goal is to provide an environment for consumers to create and play back contents in full-HD, and to make full-HD a format second to none.

4G Blu-ray Player (BD-P1500)
The recently completed fourth-generation Blu-ray player(BD-P1500) will play CDs and DVDs as well as the high quality BDs. This is a full-HD Blu-ray, offering the same high picture quality as the original movie. With dual decoding, the product offers a Bonus View function whereby you can watch picture-in-picture contents at the same time as the main program. Built-in memory enables a Bookmark function. In addition, internet and USB memory provide easy firmware upgrades now and will bring BD Live interactive service in the days ahead.

Future Blu-ray players from Samsung will be equipped with an HQV processor to deliver even better picture quality the ability to upgrade standard-definition video to high-definition output. The high-definition audio function will also be enhanced.

2G Blu-ray Home Theater (HT-BD2F)
In December 2007 Samsung Electronics released the world’s first home theater-in-a-box that includes Blu-ray(HT-BD2), and it comes with 7.1-channel, lossless surround sound—the same as a regular movie theater. The product supports various HD surround decoding formats, including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio, and it reproduces sound ranging up to 50KHz. With the second-generation Blu-ray home theater, Samsung changed the speaker system to 5.1 channels and lowered the price accordingly to increase sales.

Sunday Stories: Colt Ralliart Version-R Special

Colt Ralliart Version-R Special !!

Last year Mitsubishi announced a little power bump for the 2008 version, now we're thrilled to hear that Mitsubishi has released yet another version of the 2008 Ralliart Version-R, the Version-R Special.

So what's so special about this new little Colt? Technically speaking there's no change whatsoever to either the engine bay or the engine itself, but a major improvement has been made to the car’s rigidity. Thanks to the adoption of Continuous Welding (pictured below) Mitsubishi succeeded in increasing rigidity by 10%, providing better handling response and decreased rolling.

Sunday Stories: The Hot Wheels Honda Racer!

The Hot Wheels Honda Racer!

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the eternally famous Hot Wheels, Mattel presented the "Hot Wheels Designer's Challenge" which provided major car manufacturers, such as Lotus and Mitsubishi, to go wild with their own automobile interpretations. In that vein, Honda presents the Honda Racer!

Hot Wheels are toys but Honda took things seriously enough to create a car which "combines the excitement of Honda's racing heritage with Hot Wheels' reputation for speed, power, performance and attitude", says Guillermo Gonzalez, senior designer for Honda R&D Americas, Inc., and designer of this crazy little machine.

The major elements of the Honda Racer are the "H" body featuring two seats for driver + co-pilot, and in the middle, a mechanic's fantasy: a 20 liter VTEC V10 motor. The power/torque/acceleration/top speed figures are nowhere to be found but with so little downforce (inspired by the 1967 Honda F1), this thing would absolutely fly!

Good fun coming up for kids and Honda fans.

LG-KF700

LG Launches the Versatile LG-KF700

"LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, today launched its LG-KF700, a new multimedia phone that combines three input methods to create an amazingly intuitive user interface and provides instant access to features.

The LG-KF700 is the first phone to integrate three separate input methods, including a 3-inch touchscreen, alpha-numeric keypad and Shortcut Dial. Each of these input methods is assigned to the tasks at which it is most best suited, creating a user-optimized interface and making all of the phone’s functions and features instantly accessible.

“LG has already established itself as a leader in phones with touch technology with Chocolate, the Prada Phone by LG and Viewty, and the LG-KF700 continues this legacy,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “We realize that touchscreens are a wonderful advancement, but they are not the solution for every problem or every user. We looked beyond just touch when designing the LG-KF700 and studied how people actually use their phones. The LG-KF700’s three separate input methods provide unmatched convenience and mean that users don’t have to give up anything to gain a touchscreen.”

The LG-KF700’s 3-inch full touchscreen provides easy access to features and widgets, an adaptive onscreen interface and a wide aspect ratio that is perfect for watching movies or browsing the internet.

The Shortcut Dial on the back of the phone quickly scrolls through six user-selected features by controlling a virtual dial on screen, eliminating the need to dig through menus. The Shortcut Dial can also be used to zoom in on web pages, scroll through e-mails or adjust volume.

The third input method on the LG-KF700 is its alpha-numeric keypad, a feature that customers asked LG to retain because of its familiarity and because it simplifies the process of making phone calls and is excellent for typing text messages.

Together, the LG-KF700’s input methods become even more powerful. When browsing the internet on the wide touchscreen, the shortcut dial zooms in and out on websites. When sending text messages, the alpha-numeric keypad provides all of the letters, while frequently used symbols are readily available on the touchscreen. These symbols change based on users text messaging habits.

One of the LG-KF700’s powerful multimedia features is a full featured Web browser that provides full access to Google Search, Blogs, Gmail, Maps and Youtube. Support for HSDPA 3G networks* makes web browsing extremely fast and makes other features like video telephony possible. Other features include an MP3 player, MPEG4 video player, 3.0-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity and more.

All of the phone’s multimedia features are packed into a slim and stylish package with a clean, minimalist look. The LG-KF700 is available in black and silver versions, as well as a black version with chrome accents.

LG first announced the LG-KF700 at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where it met an enthusiastic reception. The phone is now available in Europe and will become available in other markets in the following months. For additional information on the first phone to integrate three separate input methods please visit http://KF700.lgmobile.com."

A new television commercial for the Soul features music performed by talented singer-songwriter Robin Thicke. Zelle Harrison for Nissan GT-R

Zele - Harrison Carbon Fiber Kit for the Nissan GT-R

You may have already heard of a Nissan GT-R "V-Spec" going round the Nurburgring's Nordschleife in an astonishing 7 minutes and 25 seconds (unofficial time), this version is said to be 100kg lighter than the standard version... but those (mostly the japanese) who can't wait to maximize the potential of their very own Godzilla are beginning to enjoy more and more possibilities offered by various tuners...one of them is Zele-Harrison.

Their body kit is making use of carbon fiber parts (basically everything which is black on the pics) to save weight while giving the car an aggressive look and keeping all the luxury of the interior.
The rims are Gram Lights R57GT blacks in 20 inches and the ECU has been slightly modified.

Now you know!
